Have you ever been on a dream date? You know the super hot girl that you thought would never say yes the one that you were just a little bit afraid to ask out then one day you plucked up the courage and she said yes……..well that's what it was like when I asked the team at Continental Cars about doing a review on the Audi RS6…….a car that I have always admired and dreamed about but thought it would never say yes!
To my amazement Nathan and the team decided to let me loose in not just the standard version but the jaw dropping performance pack version with a whopping 605Hp coming from the german power house up the front!
Now as cars go this thing is fast, zero to 100 in 3.7 seconds which is enough to wipe the smile off any kid you can find. Just don't let them eat ice cream in the back as it will go all over the seats! You can't help but want to stop at the motorway on ramps to test this performance out daily. Audi clam a limited top speed of 250 kph more than you'll ever need on any NZ road…...But if you were inclined to head to Hampton downs for a drive day I think you would be knocking on the limiter pretty easily. I can't confirm or deny if I went to Hamilton that week!
There is no mistake that this is a serious wagon that is more than comfortable cruising around the city streets at low speed but much happier powering down a country road and taking in some tight twisty corners. To me it's almost the perfect car, loads of performance but plenty of room in the boot for kids sports gear and the golf clubs.
Our test car was shod with a set of Pirelli Pzero tyres which are one of my favorites. These tyres are designed for performance and matched to the RS6 provide an insane amount of grip in both the wet and dry conditions I experienced during the week I had the car for review. Wear on the Pirellis is not going to be like a those old sneakers that you had that lasted forever, think of it more like those fancy Asics you got to do a half marathon they were designed to do a job and then you need to change them for a new set. The P Zeros are designed to do a job and then you need some more.
The interior of the RS6 is form and function it's not flashy at all and thats nice, this car isn't designed to be flashy it's designed to be understated. It has all the creatures comforts you would expect from a car of this caliber but you don't feel like everyone is looking at you when you are driving it. It appears sensible but goes like a madman. It's practical, luxurious, beautifully built and amusingly understated for the performance on offer.
No matter what you wanted to do in the RS6 it can deliver, if you want a fast open road tourer to get to those ski fields or a daly city commuter then this will tick the boxes. Overall I can't say enough about my dream date………...it was even better than I expected!!!!
Get into Continental Cars and see Nathan and the team and take one for a test drive.
